You make some valid points but you seem to gloss over the Blacklist. In the 40s & 50s, Hollywood was quite conservative, particularly when the studios still ran the movie business. Though Hollywood creatives are predominately liberal, studio execs have always been more conservative. This is still the case today, by the way. Having worked at a number of studios (Paramount, Sony, Warner Brothers, Universal), the decision makers are not all liberals like you think they are. Show business is much more "business" than "show."
