You're an insider with privy knowledge of the SF Silicon Valley ethos. That's what makes your article so maddening. You write about the ability for tech platforms to "foster positive change for the better" then bemoan "the sclerotic SF government and it's inability to solve problems." As an insider, you can help us understand the relation between tech innovation and societal chaos. You say you could cynically write about how social media "channels our cruelest impulses, addicts us" and causes us to "grow into a modern panopticon." Maybe you should write about this. You seem to be dismissing the damage Silicon Valley has wrought upon cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. I wish you would explore this terrain. Rather than blaming government, how is Silicon Valley to blame? Has Uber and Instacart really improved our lives? The "newly-minted MBAS" who flock to SF to create the next "Uber for X" are not doing this to make our lives better. They're trying to make a buck. Just wish you'd explore these issues further and more honestly. You are someone in a position to shed light. (FYI, we're not all in the metaverse already. I don't even know what it is; nor do I want to know.)
